Worldmark by Wyndham

You are probably wondering by the title of this what I am going to talk about. Well..... this weekend was fun, awful, exiting, boring, stressful and funny! I know that those things don't really work together, but when you're with Josh and Ashley in SLC, they do!   Ok, so Josh signed us up to listen to a sales presentation on a time share (Worldmark by Wyndham).  The reason for doing this, was a $25 dollar American Express Card, 2 nights at one of their hotels, $100 dollars to Olive Garden, and they would pay for our gas to get down to SLC where the presentation was.  The guy told Josh it would only be 60 min. I am sure that many of you have experienced one of these great presentations. It is a great way to spend not only 60 min of your Saturday, but 180 min. of your Saturday.  First we listened to a very excited, annoying, fake liar who talked to us about how we are spending to much on vacation time, and this time share would save our lives, strengthen our families and marriage, and saves thousands of dollars. After he was done getting teary eyed, telling us stories of his childhood, stories of people he knows that have been saved because they bought a time share, and talking about friends that were so close to him (but he forgot their names),  we got sent through to someone else.  There we were told that we need this in our lives, and that it would be $3,000 down today with monthly payments of $600..... SO if you are like Josh and I that is no problem, sure we will just throw that down... NOT!  After we said NO, it went to $1,000 down, and monthly payments of $165. Again we gave them a NO, and it went to no down payment, and $30 a month.  We still stuck to our NO.  He then gave up, but told us we had to give him some referrals.  He gave us a paper with lines enough for about 100 referrals.  We gave him one, we really couldn't think of 100 right then.  He got upset we only gave him one and told us he would get in trouble by his boss if he didn't get more, and that if we could give him more that would really help him out. We put two more and you would have thought we handed him a check for $1,000.  He then said "Come this way and we will get you your free gift...... Sit right here and someone will be right with you."  After waiting for about 20 min.  Someone came, sat down and said. "I am going to take 3o sec. of your time. What if we could GIVE you a week at one of our resorts as a trial to use in the next two years and we will hold this cost of no down payment and $30 a month. That will give you two years to think about it."  Now remember he said that he would GIVE us this... he then said, "It will only cost $400 today and $100 a month" which with in minutes that went down to no down and $20 a month after I told him if I had $400 to spend today it would be on a crib for our baby.  He just kept pushing..... saying things like, we are GIVING this to you, and anybody can afford $20 a month. Then the first guy came walking by, looked at Josh and said..."She deserves this vacation time.... you better take her or someone else will"   Well that just made me mad, you DO NOT want to make a pregnant girl mad, I then argued with the guy and got a little fired up. Josh came in and also got fired up and said "Look dude we are done with this, we just want the free gift" Finally 3 hours later we got our free gift.  Well..... we didn't really get it, we got the paper that we have to mail in, and we will get our gift in 6 weeks!!! Oh man was that an interesting 3 hours.... definitely NOT worth the free gift, but we now know to not do that again! And we walked away laughing and joked about it the rest of the day.
Then we decided to go to IKEA! We both had never been and wanted to check it out. That place is awesome. We found a few things at a great deal.... we were happy! We got a quick treat and a drink and went to load our stuff in the car..... Josh pulled the car up and we loaded it into the trunk, shut the trunk, and got in our car.  But....... the keys were locked in it and the car was running!!!  My car should not do this, even when the car is turned off and the keys are in the ignition it will not lock.  How this happened we had no idea! We just looked at each other and laughed. We then both tried the door again and stared at it like it was just going to open on its own. Thanks to a nice couple who we found out later, was there 1 year wedding anniversary and they were buying their first bed, helped us get into our car.  We found some wire, pried the top part of the door open and finally after about an hour got it open!!  We got in the car, laughed and were so thankful for nice people who took an hour of their time to help us.
We stopped in Layton for dinner at Tepanyaki and everything went great! The craziness of our weekend had come to an end. At the end of the day, we at least got a good laugh, fun stuff at IKEA, met nice people and had a great meal.  Now you can see how our weekend was fun, awful, exiting, boring, stressful and funny!  A lesson to all, NEVER attend a Worldmark by Wyndham presentation!  Sorry to those of you that we put down as referrals :)

Oh no. John called me right before he met Josh for lunch to tell me that the lady already called him and he said yes! I wonder if there is anyway we can back out?! There is no way I am getting a babysitter to sit through that! This post was hilarious! You guys had quite the weekend. Thank goodness you are going on a real vacation!

Oh my gosh, Ashley, that presentation sounds terrible! I don't blame you for getting all fired up. Their tactics are ridiculous.

Glad you stopped by IKEA, though. One of my favorite stores ever.

Thanks for the laugh!

Jake's parents are members of the Worldmark! I've never sat through a presentation, nor do I want to! But they use it a lot! But I would too if I was an empty nester and could work from anywhere! So Sorry you guys had to go through that.

Oh, man! What a nightmare. I'm glad I've never signed up for one of those. I can't stand those sales people. BTW, your baby bump is so cute! Are you feeling any better these days?

That's so hilarious! I have a few comments about this post. First, we did the same thing in Mexico while on a cruise and it actually turned out good (sorry, I don't mean to rub it in your face) they said it was going to be an hour and it was 30 min. Only my mom had to attend and we got to stay at their resort for free all day, get free food and use their boogy boards for free too. It was great! So try it again if your ever in Mexico, and maybe you'll have a better experience... I'm glad to know though that this is NOT a good thing to try in the states. Second, getting a time share will strengthen your marriage?! Seriously? What are they thinking?- it will probably RUIN it because it's such an un-necessary waste of money! Third, I can't believe how much they marked it down, they must be pretty desperate! Way to stick to your NO answer! Sorry this is such a long comment.

Love it. Those presentations kill me. How do they get some of those salespeople that are like unstoppable rebel forces when it comes to telling you how bad your poor little family need those vacations? Tepanyaki's awesome. Ted
